ellis_park_stadium2010 World Cup Stadiums – Coca-Cola Park (Johannesburg)

Although not as spectacular as Soccer City, Coca-Cola Park (previously known as Ellis Park) has significant sentimental value to South Africans. It was at this stadium that the gutsy South African rugby team defeated the favoured New Zealanders in the 1995 Rugby World Cup final. Although Coca-Cola Park will not play host to the final of the 2010 Soccer World Cup people will be hoping to see games as exciting as the ones they’ve been privileged to witness there in the past.

Some of the most prestigious soccer teams in the world, namely Brazil, Manchester United and Arsenal, have already had the pleasure of performing at Coca-Cola Park. It was also one of the stadiums chosen for the Confederations Cup earlier this year. The competition went down without a hitch.

The stadium underwent some major renovations so that it could be considered for a semi-final match. 10 000 seats were added to the stadium, mostly behind each of the goals, and the stadium can now hold up to 70 000 people.
