Natal MidlandsInland from the warm watered coast of KwaZulu Natal, between the towns of Pietermaritzburg and the Drakensberg Mountains is the area known as the Natal Midlands. The area is filled with beautiful little guest houses where visitors can stay as they explore the forested hills, rolling farmlands and the many sparkling rivers and dams. The Natal Midlands is a farming region, so naturally the people are friendly and eager to show visitors why people always make sure to visit the area when they are passing by.

Areas like the Natal Midlands are great places to find various arts and crafts made by the various cultures that now inhabit South Africa. The Midlands Meander is an 80km stretch of land within the Natal Midlands that has become renowned for its sale of various arts and crafts. It is convenient for the traders and tourists, being both a place of business and a must see tourist attraction.

The Natal Midlands is also the area where the Boer, the British and the Zulus all encountered one another and the area is now home to some of the most historic battle sights in South Africa.

Natal Midlands Nature Reserves

The Natal Midlands is naturally such a beautiful place that it will come as no surprise to hear that there are three major nature reserves in the area. The Albert Falls Dam Nature reserve, a great place for fishing hiking, picnicking and generally just enjoying the sights. The Kamberg Nature Reserve is closer to the Drakensberg Mountains so naturally is better for hiking and exploring. The Loteni Nature Reserve is another great fishing location set in spectacular scenery.
