Magaliesberg

The Magaliesberg Mountain range is a 120km long stretch of mountain that is over 100 times older than Mount Everest. It is in this mountain range that you can find the Cradle of Humankind, the famous World Heritage Sight. The landscape of the mountain range is made up of deep, river filled valleys, sheer cliffs, and luscious vegetation. Some of the kloofs (holes in the earth) in the area run as far as 100 meters deep, making the Magaliesberg a perfect location for hikers, climbers, hang-gliders and abseilers to venture.

Despite being known as the birthplace of humankind, the reason that Magaliesberg is so popular is because it is no more than an hour away from the fast paced life of Johannesburg. It is the ideal getaway for those running out of steam, looking to get in touch with nature or simply just hoping to rejuvenate themselves a bit.

Another great reason to head out to Magaliesberg is for the bird watching. Over 200 species of birds have been discovered in the area. All the birds are not there all year round, however, you will see different ones depending on the time of year you visit. One thing you will see all year round though is other bird watchers, taking in the natural beauty and majesty that Magaliesberg has to offer.
